Summary
The project will develop, validate and demonstrate a roadmap for a monitoring system suitable for insulation monitoring of IT grounded aerospace electrical systems. As aerospace electrical systems move towards higher voltages, it is essential to guarantee reliability of operation and safety for users. IT isolation in electrical distribution systems provides many benefits in terms of safety for high reliability applications. In IT systems the use of insulation monitoring devices is mandatory. However, no insulation monitoring device suitable for aerospace specifications currently exists. The project will demonstrate the first insulation monitoring system for IT electrical installation based on the requirements of the aerospace market.
The project, led by the University of Sheffield and Bender, joins two leading academic and industrial partners with significant research and development expertise in the field of insulation and monitoring equipment for electrical power systems.
