TAO | Training and occupation

Summary
Unemployment is of prime concern to Europe today and is a major societal challenge. 18.5 million people (11% of the labour force) are without jobs. The European Union is going through a unprecedented period of technological change, brought about by the development of information and communication technologies, especially the internet. In this environment, it is essential that people are able to learn effectively. The aim of this project is therefore to promote multi-sectoral and cross-disciplinary key/core skills, which will enable people to anticipate change and learn how to learn. This will primarily be achieved by promoting the flow of information over the internet.

During the first year of the project, the partners will undertake a survey of skill and training needs at local and transnational level. The second year of the project will be devoted to forging closer links between education/training establishments and enterprises. An exchange and placement programme will be organised for students and workers. During the third year, the partners will develop a skill accreditation and credit transfer system. This will include the production of multimedia instruments for self-evaluation of acquired skills and the development of individual career plans.

Impact
The project will promote the development of links between schools and enterprises; encourage the accreditation of prior learning; and combat exclusion by increasing access to training.
