Summary
"JULIA - short for Joint developments for Urban resiLIence connecting users to public transport through spAce technology- aims at
fostering the uptake of EU Space services and data in the long lead public transport market at the global scale, raising awareness among key decision makers (PTAs, PTOs, cities) on that EGNSS pays off -both from technical and economic perspectives-, ultimately unlocking significant, measurable, and durable impact. It will do so by advancing existing, mature public transport-oriented, user-centric applications leveraging digital technologies, and piloting them to mature, market-ready TRL7-9 solutions. An “Operating System” for Public Transport Operators will be developed building on an already existing Demand Responsive Transit platform, enabling new modules for managing public transport operations, including Artificial Intelligence to enhance existing algorithms to match demand and offer. APIs and webhooks
will power different kinds of integrations. These include an information layer for travelers and city stakeholders on air quality using Copernicus data. Curated information and KPIs will be disseminated to the public transport industry through the ""Global Observatory of EU Space Data & Services in Public Transport"", and selected data sets will be shared in a decentralised way following the EU Data Spaces reference architecture. As a result of JULIA, SMEs participating in the project are expected to raise their Return on Investment (ROI) by more than 20% by 2028, while +200.000 vehicles will potentially be equipped with Galileo advanced features beyond the project. Outreach of the project results toward the global public transport industry will be maximised through a bold dissemination strategy led by ERTICO and POLIS."
