Summary
HyImpulse Technologies GmbH proposes the scale-up of the HyImpulse key propulsion technologies (HyTec) for a gamechanging, unique, low risk, yet innovative small launcher and sounding rocket.
It will spin in novel and established technologies in inherently safe hybrid rocket propulsion, low-cost turbopump technology
and sounding rockets, into a unique and integrated technical and commercial offering which can capture the small satellite
€20 Billion market.
With SME Ph2 HyImpulse intends to accelerate the scale up of hardware and business component of the Mini Launcher and
enter the sounding rocket €1-2 Billion market, demonstrating hybrid propulsion as a safe, green, and low cost alternative for
smallsats access to space.
The proposed activities comprise the scale up and testing of the flight engine, the turbopump assembly and other
subcomponents like valves, piping and electronics. This work will also lead to a complete formulation of the launcher
production strategy that benefits from European technology in composite and 3D printing. Major cost reduction from
HyImpulse by half compared to competitors is planned thanks to mass production of hybrid rocket engines.
This project will lead to direct growth, leadership, independent access to space and complement ESA’s launch offerings by
filling the lower end of satellite launch products.
