Development of an information medium on education, training, study, practical training and work in a member country of the EU

Summary
The EURO-CD-ROM with the working title "Fit for Europe" is intended to strengthen the European dimension of career choice and promote occupational flexibility and mobility, educational and vocational exchanges, and the acquisition of experience abroad and European qualifications.

The CD-ROM will contain both general European information (labour market, employment agencies, vocational counselling centres, databases, tips on applying, labour law, etc.) and detailed information on specific countries (educational systems, equivalence of qualifications, vocational training, study, etc.). It will be modular in format and structured as an open database, which will be expanded in stages and easily updated.

The target groups will be higher-school students, college students, workers, and those employed in vocational counselling and employment agencies. It will also be able to be used by firms who need to research living and working conditions or questions of industrial or social insurance law. The first version of the EURO-CD-ROM will be produced for all 15 member countries. Language versions in German, English, French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish are planned.

Impact
The CD-ROM will facilitate direct and rapid access to information and contact persons in a diverse data pool. As a key research resource it can bundle together a large number and variety of sources and make the data available in a user-friendly manner. It will promote the European dimension in vocational counselling, add to the utility of vocational counselling services, and support lifelong learning by young people and adults through lifelong vocational counselling.
