MOCEAN INTELLIGENCE | Empowering SMEs to take part in the Ocean Industry with an Intelligent Platform that will support their Business decisions

Summary
The EU has identified the ocean as the biggest driver of economic growth, with an added value of €500 billion per year and expected job creation of 9 million by 2030. Currently, companies that want to exploit ocean’s resources need to build structures in marine environments, spending between 2 and €35 million to select the most appropriate location and months of analysis. A few solutions focus on automating big data analysis, but present important limitations as they lack a user-centred approach and don’t deliver the exact inputs/outputs needed to make business decisions. Furthermore, they still require a long period of analysis and associated cost. Founded in 2016 by geo-physics and software experts, Mocean One (Norway) aims to bring Europe’s SMEs to the forefront of the maritime market and disrupt the ocean industry. By using an innovative user-centred approach, we have developed MOCEAN INTELLIGENCE (TRL6), an intelligent platform that enables users (i.e. off-shore construction companies) to identify a suitable marine construction or operations site to exploit the oceans’ resources, within minutes. Furthermore, our Software-as-a-Service business model allows us to provide actionable insights at 1/20 of the costs of alternatives. The first version of MOCEAN INTELLIGENCE was developed in close cooperation with users, including Seabased AB and Owec Tower AS, and backed-up with data by one of our partners, PGS, a global leader in geo-marine data for the oil & gas industry. It is now available online, demonstrating to early-customers how they can find sites in the ocean to construct their infrastructures in the Netherlands’ coastline. Further developments involve scaling our platform and expanding its functionalities to other geographic regions, particularly ones with large coast lines and high energy production potential (i.e. DE, FR, UK). Through this project we expect to boost Mocean One’s revenues to €13.1 million, while growing the team to 23 people by 2021.
