MILIEU | Women, Disability, and Inclusion – Scientific Excellence in Bulgaria

Summary
The objective of MILIEU (“woMen dIsabiLity and Inclusion – Scientific Excellence in BUlgaria”) is to create a networking collaboration between the Institute for the Study of the Societies and Knowledge of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (ISSK-BAS) and two high renowned Universities: Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) and Università degli Studi di Genova(Italy), with the final aim of increasing ISSK-BAS scientific excellence and visibility, research innovation capacity and of enabling frontier research at the crossroad of studies on women, disability and inclusion. Such research topics are almost totally unaddressed in Bulgaria, therefore MILIEU will also bring significant research and societal impacts in the long term, as well as introducing a new line of research at ISSK-BAS and in Bulgaria, related to disability studies, feminist disability studies, and gender. For the achievement of its objectives, the project will rely on a variegated set of methods, such as: 1) interdisciplinarity and knowledge sharing, 2) capacity building, 3) participatory approach, 4) inclusivity and sustainability and 5) far-reaching methods for communication and engagement. The Twinning exercise will build on an appropriate set of key actions – with a strong focus on ESR engagement –from joint training and research paths, to bilateral meetings, from short visits to dedicated conferences and summer schools, leading to new research opportunities and joint research projects in the field. The organization of networking and outreaching activities, inter alia conferences and dissemination events as well as liaison activities with similar projects, will contribute to the visibility of ISSK-BAS and of the other EU partners in the field. Finally, to ensure transferability and uptake of results as well as sustainability of MILIEU after the project end-date, final recommendations and guidelines to policymakers and to other institutions in Widening countries will be produced.
