Summary
Vertical farming is a promising technology to address the challenges related to the impact of climate change on agricultural production, the increased demand associated with global population growth, and urbanisation. However, vertical farms are energy-intensive plants with specific requirements. The technology and system-level design and control optimisation developed in the EIC Transition project 'Super-HEART' involves research and development on multiport power converters. Their unique features such as the high density, low loss, and fault tolerance, can address the specific needs of the application. The aim of this project is therefore to provide a systemic and systematic benchmark assessment of the costs and benefits of the technology developed in Super-HEART for the supply of vertical farms.
