PREPARED | Progressive Research to Enable Policy Action to Respond and Educate on Disability

Summary
The core objective of PREPARED is to support the next generation of experienced disability rights researchers to develop an evidence base for disability-inclusive policy responses. Since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2006, there has been a rapid global expansion of legislation and policy on the rights of disabled people. However, in developing policy to respond to the most urgent crises of our time, including climate crises, forced migration, armed conflict, and refugee crises disabled people are often left behind. While the obligations on States under human rights law are clear, most governments are struggling to understand how to implement these obligations in a disability-inclusive manner. PREPARED will recruit 6 Experienced Researchers to complete 36month fellowships. We will run an open, merit-based competition for the applicants from a wide range of disciplines including, but not limited to design, technology, communications, politics, sociology, economics, and law founded on international peer review. As a world leader in excellent and impactful disability rights scholarship, the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the University of Galway is uniquely positioned to ensure PREPARED makes lasting contributions to policy development at the national, European and global levels. Experienced researchers will be embedded in our global networks and working directly with civil society leaders in our non-academic partners such as DRF, Inclusion Int., CBM, and EDF. They will also be seconded within government departments and state agencies where they are most needed to design, implement and monitor progress in achieving the goals of disability-responsive laws and policies. This will provide researchers with unique opportunities to influence policy development at the heart of progress, enabling them to further their careers in academia, in Progressive Research to Enable Policy Action to Respond & Educate on Disability
