ONCOscanner | ONCOscanner – oncological probe for intra-operative identification of cancerous tissues during surgical treatment for breast cancer

Summary
ONCOscanner is an innovative solution that enables intra-operative recognition of collected tissues, in particular during surgical removal of breast cancer. Breast cancer incidence is increasing and early diagnosis is improving, this results in an increase in the number of treatments performed using the breast-saving method, when the surgeon cuts out only the tumor, trying to save as much healthy tissue as possible. ONCOscanner offers an innovative solution that supports the surgeon during breast cancer surgery.
More precisely the thoracic resection procedure is performed, the fewer complications occur. Currently, the surgeon performing evaluation of the correctness of the excised tissue by visual and palpation methods, then the removed tissue is sent for histopathological examination, where the pathomorphologist assesses whether the entire neoplastic lesion has been excised and the margin of healthy tissue is sufficiently wide. ONCOscanner enables the surgeon to better recognize which sections of tissue are healthy and which are cancerous and still need to be removed, thus global use of ONCOscanner could allow to avoid almost 200 000 repeated operations every year and save about €2,4 bn of costs a year – it has huge, both social and economic impact, as well as create great business opportunity
