Summary
Using HITCOMP as a basis, we will build upon our interactive platform to create a website that provides the following:
1. A bridge that links and connects existing HIT skills assessment tools, career development ladders, and other networks such as those developed and being disseminated by the EU, HIMSS, Coordination Actions in the scientific era of Medical Education Informatics for fostering IT skills for healthcare workforce in the EU and USA (CAMEI), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), International Federation of Health Information Management (IFHIMA), US Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), and others
2. A site where students and those interested in the HIT/eHealth field can learn about careers and career requirements, education and skills needed for entry and advancement
3. A site where new and incumbent workers can self-assess their skills, and map what skills are necessary to enter or advance in any of the wide opportunities of careers in HIT/eHealth
4. Expansion of the HITCOMP tool to provide dynamic linkage to a variety of vocational skills frameworks, such as the European eCompetence Framework, UKCHIP, and others
5. Dissemination and exploitation of developed core curriculum and basic skills training/offerings in HIT and eHealth, with dynamic linkage to additional providers of education and curriculum in HIT/eHealth.
