Observation operator for lidar- and aircraft-type datasets

The development of observation operators, which provide the link between model fields and observed quantities, is a prerequisite for data assimilation. This Report describes the development of generic observation operators for (i) ground-based and spaceborne lidars, including ceilometers, (ii) aircraft data, (iii) radioactive dose rate monitoring. Observations of this type have the potential to complement in-situ and column-integrated satellite observations by providing vertical profiles and cross-sections of the plumes.
