Summary
A survey will be undertaken of existing regional SLO and related tools broadly defined as any instrument that furthers the implementation of SLO used by stakeholders within the MIREU regions Information on their success or lack of will be provided by the Regional Authorities and by the other participants in MIREU who either have firsthand knowledge or their own extensive network of actors involved in mining and metallurgy projects Guidance on preparing communication material including development of infographics will subsequently be developed for governmental authorities and companies to translate complex scientific and technical subjects into concepts and language that can be understood by nontechnical stakeholders Other tools may include educational material for schoolteachers spatial and visual tools to aid stakeholders in better understanding impacts and videos that explain in plain language the mining process The draft SLO Toolbox will be benchmarked against other toolboxes that have been developed internationally ie Canada Australia USA and Chile The final version of the Toolbox will be available both as web pages and in hard copy and infographics that summarize the material will also be included
