Analysis and reporting of current multi-layer food packaging in the waste streams in Europe

Summary
The current multi-layer food packaging in waste streams of different European countries (France, Belgium and Germany) will be classified into a consolidated list of technical types, defined by their layer sequence with the applied polymer types, adhesives, inks as well as size, shape, weights and use of labels or direct printing. SUEZ will further investigate and document the behavior of MLC in current sorting lines to identify, in which sorting fractions MLC occur at all and which sorting methods/technologies are decisive for MLC’s fate in sorting lines. Sorting result, sorting quality and percentage of MLC and monofilms in different streams will be determined and their principal capability to be sorted will be assessed. The results of the analysis will be documented as a report. This deliverable is linked to Task T2.1.
