Summary
The electrical drive system including the electrical machine and back-to-back converter is one of the most important parts of an AWE system. However, many AWE researches have
their background in mechanical engineering, aerodynamics and mathematics. This course shall provide a profound introduction to electrical drive systems in particular for participants without background in electrical engineering. The concepts of modelling and control of electrical drives and power converters are derived by starting with the basics of
DC machines and boost converters followed by the theory of AC (rotating field) machines and two-level inverters. The learned concepts will be deepened by simulations and experiments in the student laboratory.
