Summary
The increased depth of sequences and improved algorithms have seen an increase in the number of marine metagenomics datasets that can be assembled. However, no metrics are in place to indicate what constitutes a good assembly. Furthermore, the community is producing more and more MAGs from these assemblies. Papers by Parks et al and Bowers et al have provided a range on different ways of assessing the quality of a MAG, with the former also beginning to outline a set of standards that should be adopted. We will assess these standards against MAGs produced from Marine samples (from both our own and publicly deposited MAGs). We will report on the criteria that we believe should be achieved from inclusion in Marine data resources, such as EBI metagenomics or the MAR databases.
