•Design experimental protocols to execute X-ray micro-tomographic characterization of the microstructure of granular materials and its evolution under mechanical loading. (UGA, UTWENTE)•To perform calibration of the model via x-ray imaging technique. Packing structure in experiment and simulation will be compared (UGA)
