738036AMIC is a EUR 115M investment in new infrastructure aimed at securing Northern Ireland’s manufacturing future and will be a springboard for manufacturing innovation in Northern Ireland. A state-of-the-art 10,500m2 Factory of the Future will open in ealry 2026 as Northern Ireland’s national centre for Advanced Manufacturing.
AMIC brings together a number of previous smaller scale centres which have long track record of collaborating with European partners and delivering EU funded projects (these include NITC, PPRC and NIACE). These engineering teams are now together under a single centre, complementing each other through cross cutting elements of sustainability, design and digitalisation.
Our Digital Factory team has access to state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing technology demonstration facilities with a particular focus on digital manufacturing, advanced machining, robotic welding and parallel kinematic machines. It has strong linkages to the advanced manufacturing catapult centres across the UK and acts as a conduit between local industry and the UK advanced manufacturing innovation ecosystem.
Our Sustainable Polymers and Composites team has established processing expertise in rotational moulding, polymer extrusion, injection moulding, blow moulding and thermoforming, Focussing on circular economy, waste reduction and compistes recyling as well as medical polymers.
We have UK capability in Smart Design which focuses on transformation of the design processes; automating and integrating the processes of concept design, detailed design and manufacturing definition. Smart design uses design tools, automation, data integration across disciplines and simulation in novel ways, with the aim of creating highly optimised designs faster and more efficiently. We have a focus on design process automation and data integration across the design and manufacturing lifecycle.
Nanotechnology/Photonics is a key capability area for AMIC in an area in which our region has a competitive position. There is a huge opportunity for AMIC to help create a resilient supply chain and ecosystem by playing a key role in the EU semiconductor strategy and leveraging expertise and investments across the island of Ireland.
